Lynne Drexler (1928-1999): Born in Newport News, VA, she studied at Richmond Professional Institute, William and Mary College, and Hunter College. While at Hunter College, Robert Motherwell encouraged her to pursue painting as a career, which she did in New York City, Hawaii, Los Angeles and Mexico before settling on Monhegan Island. After decades of summering on Monhegan with her husband, John Hultberg, Lynne moved to the island year round in 1983 and stayed there until her death in 1999. An abstract expressionist and lover of color, Lynne’s work was directly influenced by her environment.
