8″x10″ photo print_x000D_
In 1914 Monhegan marked the 300th anniversary of the arrival of Captain John Smith on Monhegan with a gala celebration. Here, folks are gathered at the top of Wharf Hill to greet visitors. Many of the island buildings were decorated with bunting and the events included speeches by dignitaries, a formal ball, an art exhibition, a parade, and a performance by the Monhegan cornet band._x000D_
